	Who Are We? We are PBE, LLC a software company owned by September Enterprises, Inc. September Enterprises is a full service landscape company as well as a retail garden center and a full line children’s bookstore. We are located near a lake resort in beautiful Southside, VA. Due to our location, our business is seasonal. Our Challenge After 14 years in the business, our challenge year after year was to get through the winter without having to borrow money to survive. We’ve always been on the lookout for new ways and new products to maintain a competitive edge. So in the fall of 2002, we attended a “Build-a-Pond” day. We walked away excited but still not very confident about adding pond systems to our offering. A few months later we attended another pond seminar expecting to increase our knowledge in this new arena. The Light Bulb Turned On! I went to the seminar and the first day was what I expected, a review of the pond business. A good review but it was not until the second day that I heard about Break Even and Gross Profit. Upon returning to my office, I was very anxious to plug my numbers into the newly discovered formulas. After doing so we found out that we would break even in 540 days! This was not good! Through 9 months of diligent effort and open book management with our employees, we were able to move our break-even date from 540 days to 223 days! We moved our gross profit up 20% and turned a loosing year into a profitable one! It was like being on a honeymoon again. We were excited about being in control of our business rather than it controlling us. PBE Born As the excitement rose, we began to ask other business if they knew their break-even date. Only 1 percent of the businesses we spoke to knew what we were talking about. This was the catalyst that birthed PBE.
